THE BUSINESS PLAN
Business Plan
Rephaiah is a Malawian pharmaceutical manufacturing project focusing on lifesaving and life enhancing medicines for infants and children. Specifically, the project will commence with rescue drugs, such as to treat severe and cerebral malaria in children under 5 years, epilepsy medicines(s), and products to treat fungal diseases affecting children before puberty.
The need for trusted, reliable medicines in sub-Saharan Africa is immense, and with an increasing population the need will only grow. Infants and children are a forgotten population group, and many medicines are not available for them in an appropriate form.
The Rephaiah vision was born in 2016. After reading multiple reports regarding access to medicines in sub-Saharan Africa and realizing that 80% of pediatric deaths are preventable with medicines, the work began. Severe and cerebral malaria alone is responsible for the death of one child every minute, according to Medicines for Malaria Ventures (EuPFI 2023).
From the start, time has been spent on understanding the landscape in Malawi for investments in an entity like this one, capable of manufacturing high quality medicines, as well as understanding the regulatory ecosystem, pharmaceutical education, and culture
The African Union has prioritized the development of pharmaceuticals manufacturing in Africa while recognizing, among others, that 90% of the world’s malaria deaths take place in Africa. Coupled with the ever-rising populations of the continent, this burden will rather increase for Africa unless interventions such as the AU led one become a reality. With a view to this initiative, it is expected that African countries will move to make their legal, policy and administrative business environments conducive. It is expected that Africa will shortly be the new focus for transformational investors in Pharmaceuticals manufacturing, particularly considering that traditional destinations are getting more expensive, particularly as they produce for far-away markets such as Africa. Rephaiah will be investing in a pre-qualified manufacturing facility in Malawi. We believe that investing in a prequalified pharmaceutical industry has the capacity to contribute significantly to the Malawian economy, both directly and indirectly.
Rephaiah’s products will be used to treat diseases in Malawi, sub-Saharan Africa, India as well as in other Asian countries. Product selection will be based on an international expert group, carefully evaluating the needs and the market in these regions. Starting with a few, high volume products will serve the company in going through the validation processes as well as in gaining revenues to invest in further expansion of products and manufacturing capabilities. Many of the products will be new ones, that require in-licensing of IP, and collaboration with major players in the pharmaceutical arena.
Rephaiah values working with internationally recognized companies and experts. We intend the company to become a prequalified entity, by World Health Organization standards.
Rephaiah is currently looking for partners and financiers, who are interested in participating in this journey. The project is searching for local and international partners and financiers who are interested in investing in Rephaiah and assisting the project in becoming a fully internationally recognized entity in Malawi.
Rephaiah’s products will be based on robust scientific research, tapping into the riches of the best products available for the children in Africa, as well as adults. Rephaiah will work in accordance with a strong ethical foundation, where quality is everything.
