The vision was born in 2016, and the Rephaiah project started in 2018. In July 2022 Hananja ehf and The Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (former University of Malawi) agreed to partner together, and in January 2024 The Ministry fo Health of Malawi joined the partnership. In January 2024 a kick-off meeting was held in Blantyre representing following prospective shareholders: Ministry of Health of Malawi, Malawi University of Science and Technology, Press Corporation and Old Mutual.
